Specialty Medications and Pharmacies
Specialty medications are prescription drugs that require special handling, administration or monitoring. They are used to treat complex, chronic and often costly conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis C and hemophilia.

Prior authorizations for specialty medications
- If you have been prescribed a specialty medication, please talk to your doctor about submitting a prior authorization request on your behalf.
- Please discuss with your doctor about choosing a specialty pharmacy to coordinate the delivery of your medication.
- If a specialty pharmacy is not selected by you or your doctor within 24 hours from receipt of the prior authorization request, we will select a participating pharmacy on your behalf.
