Specialty medications are prescription drugs that require special handling, administration or monitoring. They are used to treat complex, chronic and often costly conditions—such as rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis C and hemophilia.

Prior authorizations for specialty medications

  • If you have been prescribed a specialty medication, please talk to your doctor about submitting a prior authorization request on your behalf. 
  • Please discuss with your doctor about choosing a specialty pharmacy to coordinate the delivery of your medication. 
  • If a specialty pharmacy is not selected by you or your doctor within 24 hours from receipt of the prior authorization request, we will select a participating pharmacy on your behalf.
