Health Partners Foundation Donates 10,000 Pounds of Fresh Food at Fresh Food for Families Distribution Event

Philadelphia, PA – Health Partners Foundation (HPF), a community initiative of Health Partners Plans, partnered with Share Food Program, Pennsylvania state representative Joanna McClinton and Yeadon mayor Rohan Hepkins to give away fresh food at the Fresh Food for Families food distribution event in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. More than 10,000 pounds of fresh groceries, produce and dairy products were distributed to community members at the event.

"Helping vulnerable community residents address food insecurity is an essential part of the work being done by the Health Partners Foundation," said Staci Scott, president and executive director of HPF. "However, given the current conditions we find ourselves in, providing access to wholesome, fresh food is more than just fulfillment of our mission – it is the right thing to do at the right time. That time is now. Families are struggling financially, emotionally, and at HPF we’re just trying to do our part to help out. We distributed 600 bags of food to folks who need it most. It was a good day."

To date, HPF and partnering organizations have donated fresh food to thousands of community members in the greater Philadelphia area. The Fresh Food for Families program is a mobile food distribution program designed to serve communities in high need so residents do not go hungry. When people face food insecurity their health also suffers, which is why HPP and HPF focus on members’ social determinants of health and improving access to things like food, transportation and care.

"Events like these are always extremely important, but never more so than during a global pandemic," said Share Food executive director George Matysik. "As more and more families face economic uncertainty and struggle to put food on the table, we must ensure that we are here to answer the call and provide some relief."

"Right now, families are struggling, and this event is just one way we're working to provide our most vulnerable neighbors with the help and resources they need to get through this pandemic safely," said Rep. Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware. "I want to thank the Health Partners Foundation, Mayor Hepkins, the Share Food Program and all of the other volunteers who made our food distribution such a success."

"We’re facing a crisis like no other and consequently, there is a need to meet the burden and provide relief for citizens in our community," said Yeadon mayor Rohan Hepkins. "We are proud to have partnered with Health Partners Foundation and representative Joanna McClinton to rise to the occasion by providing food relief for Yeadon community members in need."
