Health Partners Plans Becomes FIRST Managed Care Organization in Southeastern PA to Open a Community Wellness Center in West Philadelphia

Supporting Its Commitment of Improving Lives and Connecting Communities to Holistic Care

Philadelphia, PA – On Thursday, April 4, Health Partners Plans (HPP), nationally recognized for its innovative approach to health care, will become the first managed care organization in Southeastern Pennsylvania to open a Community Wellness Center in West Philadelphia.

As a longstanding health care partner in Philadelphia for more than 32 years, HPP has continuously worked to improve the health outcomes of its members and the communities where they live. In a continued effort to honor this commitment, HPP’s new Community Wellness Center will provide members and visitors with a holistic approach to health, with access to programs and resources created for and by the people of West Philadelphia.

“As an innovative managed care organization that listens to its members and the communities we serve, we look for opportunities to meet people where they are,” said HPP President and CEO William S. George. “Our new Community Wellness Center is a natural extension of the commitment we’ve made to improve the overall health of our communities, and we are thrilled about the opportunity to be West Philadelphia’s partner in health.”

The new center will offer the West Philadelphia community classes and services, including:

  • Professional Development and Job Training Workshops focused on resume building, assertive communication and interviewing skills
  • Health and Wellness Classes including Zumba, Chair Yoga and Stretching Essentials
  • Nutrition Classes such as “Eating Healthy on a Budget” and “Chat and Chew with a Dietitian/Personal Trainer”
  • Mental and Social Well-Being Classes including Sleep Matters, Stress Reduction and Anti-Bullying
  • Healthy Cooking Demos

All programs are open to the public at no cost. Extending beyond health care and focusing on the whole person, the center will connect visitors to community resources that help overcome food, housing and environment obstacles that hinder health outcomes. HPP members will also have access to Member Relations, Medicare Sales and Care Management staff members who will be on site to assist with plan and benefit questions and services.

HPP’s Community Wellness Center grand opening will take place on Thursday, April 4 at 6232 Market Street in West Philadelphia. Legislators, local dignitaries, community members and organizations are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony that will take place at 11 a.m. followed by the grand opening festivities happening noon to 4 p.m.
