Health Partners Plans Welcomes Christian Sondergaard as Director of Investigations and Subrogation

Chris Sondergaard Web ThumbnailPhiladelphia, PA — Christian Sondergaard, Jr., Esq., has joined Health Partners Plans (HPP) as director of investigations and subrogation. In his role, Sondergaard oversees the anti-fraud plan and special investigation unit, and ensures compliance with all related state and regulatory requirements. In addition, Sondergaard is charged with providing a system of checks and balances regarding prospective contractual compliance, associated financial risks, retrospective claims payments and identification of control deficiencies. He also leads the fraud task force and serves as the liaison with federal and state law enforcement agencies.

Sondergaard joins HPP with two decades of legal experience, including ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as investigating and prosecuting Medicare and Medicaid fraud, waste and abuse. Before joining HPP, Mr. Sondergaard was a senior deputy attorney general at the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, where he was the lead prosecutor in one of Pennsylvania’s largest Medicaid fraud cases. His work resulted in the recovery of $6.1 million for Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services, the highest recovery in its history. In addition, Mr. Sondergaard was cross-designated as a special assistant United States attorney where he prosecuted health care fraud cases in federal court.

Prior to his position at the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Mr. Sondergaard’s professional background includes several years of civil litigation practice with experience in insurance defense, social security disability and personal injury. He was also an assistant district attorney with the City of Philadelphia.

Mr. Sondergaard graduated from Temple University with a juris doctorate in law and a bachelor’s degree in political science. In his spare time, he volunteers at the Legal Clinic for the Disabled, the Homeless Advocacy Project and coaches little league sports. He currently resides with his family in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
